Peculiar

The word “geek” has been defined as “a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, gaming, etc.”  If you’re reading this, it’s likely that one or more of the items on that list fall in line with your interests.  Perhaps your own “peculiar” brand of geekery includes movies and video games, books, comics, gadgetry and technology, or other intellectual and artistic pursuits like design, cooking, politics, and theology.

Whatever your unique blend of interests, it’s the last item in that list that will hopefully set this blog apart from many of the other geek-centric or culture blogs.  While we’re here to comment on, review, and write about the many things that fall (in one way or another) under the umbrella of geekery, ultimately all of it will exist within the framework of that other peculiarity.

In the King James translation of the Bible, Christians are referred to as “peculiar” people, too (Titus 2:14, 1 Peter 2:9).  In this instance, it means more along the lines of being set apart for a purpose, belonging to God, that sort of thing.  Any way you cut it, though, Christians can be very peculiar people, because the God we serve is a peculiar God.  He is above all things, His ways are not our ways, and He surprises us very frequently with the things He does or the way He does something.

Ultimately we hope that through the exploration and enjoyment of various geeky (peculiar) things in life and culture, there will be many opportunities to see, dig up, and investigate elements of truth not only about life, but also God, people and whatever else.  Though it won’t necessarily be overt or even present in every post, that will be the ongoing underlying thread of this blog.  We value input and feedback, so we invite you to join in, participate, and interact as things continue to develop and grow here.

Anyway, that’s the general idea.  Hope you enjoy the ride!
