Highlights From the Blogroll

If you haven’t checked out some of the guys on our blogroll, give them a chance. Here are a few recent highlights:

The new kid on the blogroll is Mockingbird, a blog filled with theology, culture, and the fun of watching the two mix. They realize that once you start looking for stories that parallel the Fall of Man and the Redemption, you really can’t stop. Their latest example is from The Onion, who reminds us how easy it is to chase after the wind.

From The Onion: $14 Trillion Spent Annually On Trying To Look Cool…

…the amount Americans spend on cool looking haircuts is nearly 15 times greater than the total amount spent on cancer research,” said Eric Gerhardt, noted economist and lead author of the report. “Whether it’s name-brand sneakers, an all-in-one espresso maker, or a pair of hip and stylish Ray-Ban sunglasses, we devote tremendous resources each year toward our conspicuous attempts at stature enhancement.”

Another place to look over is The Resurgence, a blog filled with interviews from theologians, pastors, and others who write about the Christian faith. A recent entry is from Mars Hill Church’s music pastor on how he stopped worshipping music:

I was completely sold out. Not for Jesus, but for music. Not because I actually made money or had much actual success in the biz, but because indie rock seemed to have this ominous “saving ability.”

The culture. The cred. The freedom of playing music on my own terms. All of these things I wrongly believed would save me from living a meaningless life, working in a depressing career field, or having to do anything that wasn’t fun.

Adventures in Filmmaking is a blog from the Daws Brothers, the guys behind the movie Dangerous Calling. They do a great job of looking over classic movies, including foreign films. Their most recent topic was on Francois Truffaut’s The 400 Blows. Also, they present some rather direct secrets to being a better writer, from their post “Butt in the Seat.”

Finally, The Point is always a reliable place to check for constant updates, often on culture and politics for those who are into those things. Once in awhile they impress you with a beautiful video about nature and numbers or their love of the Rifftrax takedown of the new Twilight movie. That’s not exactly what I expected from the world of Charles Colson, but I welcome it nonetheless!
