Ever been jealous of those outer planets with rings? Ever wonder how our sky would look if we had our own?
Here’s a short video that shows us how the sky might look if we had Saturn’s rings, and how much different they would appear depending on where you were on the earth.
As amazing as it might look, you can imagine how it would mess with our concept of constellations and astronomy. With so much of the night sky obstructed, we’d probably be limited to a few times a year where some of our landmark constellations are visible. That may have messed with travel in centuries past, created new folklore, and prevented the concept of a pitch-black night.
Speaking of the night sky, if you like planning out your star gazing while sitting at the computer check out Stellarium. It’s free and lets you program in your home location and look up which constellations will be where when you are out. Where I live in Minnesota, we’re heading up to the darkest days of the year, so I plan to start making the most of it…how about you?
Cool info. Thanks!
