There are plenty of reasons the original language may be better, but with Ponyo (like most Ghibli movies in English post-<span id="main" style="visibility: visible;"><span id="search" style="visibility: visible;"><em>Lasseter</em></span></span>) the voices are great -- so you can focus on those backgrounds and details instead of the words....except for "BUG OFF" of course :)</p> <p>And if I didn't mention the backgrounds I apologize. The mouth movements <em>are</em> synched to the original language, and a poor dubbing will sometimes change the language in clunky ways to better fit those movements. So you know, there are reasons why a subbed version would be better... Surprised you didn't mention the gorgeous backgrounds at all. looked like oil crayoned landscapes. fantastic.
