The Onion: “Google Wants Information, INFORMATION!”

Since I’ve been keeping up with the remake of The Prisoner, I thought I’d pass along the latest from Onion TV News:

Google Opt Out Feature Lets Users Protect Privacy By Moving To Remote Village

Let’s see: I looked up information about The Prisoner using Google, The Onion uses Google ads (meaning I have cookies from Google on my computer), I wrote up a few articles using Google Docs, Firefox defaults to Google for a start page, and someone put Google Chrome and Toolbar on the computers at work. The big, bold sentence about privacy doesn’t even mention the issue, but rather says “At Google, we’re committed to transparency and choice.” Uh-oh. Every movie with bad guy in a suit trying to take over the world has uttered that phrase.
