With March barely upon us, it’s probably too early to declare the arrival of the summer movie season. Still, anticipated films like Coraline, Watchmen, and others are already here, while the hype for other anticipated movies just keeps building.
Case in point: the latest (and last) trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine is here, courtesy of MTV. Take a look, then join the discussion below.
My reaction: I think this movie will rock, and we’ll get to see why Wolverine is “the best there is at what he does.” Also, while we knew this before, this thing seems to be shaping up to be a real cameo-fest, and the list of special guests seems to be growing every time Fox puts out a new preview. Based on this trailer, I think we can add a young Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) to the roster.
I liked seeing more of Blob (Kevin Durand) and Wraith (Will.i.am) this time around (the effects being used for Wraith’s teleportation that we got a glimpse of are definitely sweet), but I’ve got to say that if there’s a looming dark spot for this film, it’s the rendition of Deadpool.
Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool, and we’ve been seeing him in basically all the trailers so far. However, in the comics, Deadpool is heavily scarred and wears a full body suit and mask. So far, all we’ve seen of Reynolds in the previews have been in a clearly pre-scarred state. Based on recent images of the movie tie-in toys (see below), though, it seems like this guy from the trailer is Deadpool, post scarring.
So why the heck does he have swords taped to his arms? An even bigger question: why does he appear to be shooting optic blasts like Cyclops?
So while the jury (for me) is still out with regard to the depiction of Deadpool, everything else appears to be on track for a geektastic film, especially if the only screwy things about this movie are a few small details.

“Ooh; shiny” I love that!
Yeah, not sure what the deal is with Deadpool. Sure doesn’t look like him. Maybe it’s somebody else or some newer character. I always thought the X-Men movies would be a cool way to introduce brand new characters to the Marvel universe.
