New Trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine!

It’s here.  You might want to sit down for this.

From everything I can see in the trailer, there’s a lot that they’re getting right.  I’m excited to see that they seem to have incorporated material from 2001’s Origin miniseries.  There’s a lot here that establishes Wolverine’s long, muddled past; right away they show that clearly this guy has been around for a while.  Sabretooth looks great, and has the right tone about him (much improved over Bryan Singer’s interpretation in the first X-men movie).  Lots of cool cameos packed into the trailer, too (Blog, Deadpool, Gambit, etc.).

In short, May 1st suddenly seems way too far away.

(You can see the trailer much larger and in better quality here, but you have to have a MySpace account and add the movie’s page to your friends list.  Bad move, Fox…bad move.)

You’re not kidding! For such a great character, it sure took them long enough. Though I think this movie will be a better place for him to shine than the other films. Hopefully he gets some decent screen time…

Wolverine, Gambit, and a Sabertooth that doesn’t look like Bigfoot.
Epic. Win!

I see Storm, but who’s the sparkly white girl and the frozen kid with the different colored eyes?

I don’t know about any of you, but whenever I heard Deadpool’s voice in my head, it sounded nothing like Ryan Reynolds… but I won’t complain.

Drew, I was about to say that you’re nuts, but then I went and watched it again, and I think you’re absolutely right – there’s almost definitely a glimpse of a little orphan Storm on the streets of Cairo.

At that point, it looks like the filmmakers might be planning to throw us geeks a few moments like that throughout the film — little “wink, wink” moments as they play with Wolverine’s age and have him bounce across the paths of other people we’ve seen before. Should be a ton of fun!

That said, my best guess for the identity of that frozen kid is the meowing boy from The Grudge. :-)

Update: Something I was reading today leads me to believe that the other girl might be an appearance by Emma Frost (shown in her diamond form). Another out-of-place choice, but I’m not so dogmatic as to get riled up about that. Should be interesting!

I am kind of wishing that instead of spending hours on end playing sports and talking to girls on the phone in Jr High I would have geeked out and read comic books just so I could know who all those people in the movie were. Well, on second thought, I guess I don’t want to be a geek. :)

That trailer looks sweet, though! I look forward to seeing the movie!

Ha! That’s very cute of you, “y.”

Sadly for your argument, I ended up socialized and well-adjusted, too. And that’s not the first time I’ve heard you “wish” you understood something more about something geeky than you do, or ask me for more information.

You’re a closet geek and you know it! ;-)

Cannot wait. I think Liev Schreiber is a great choice for Creed (Sabertooth), but I’ve always liked how he’s so much bigger and stronger than Logan in the comics. Liev standing next to Hugh Jackman kind of throws that off for me, but I think he’ll be great for the role. He’s good at that creepy / cool villainy vibe.

Just looking up people affiliated with Weapon X, could the sparkly chick be Aurora? One of her abilities is “light generation” but she is a really old character (an original member of Alpha Flight, looks like).

I can’t wait to see him be the best he is at what he does.

Well, assuming either one of us turned out socialized and well adjusted is probably questionable to many.

And really, why would I need to be a geek when I can just keep asking you about it all?

I think you should take some time right before the movie comes out and explain who all those people are and how they fit into the story. It saves me the time of having to Wiki all of them! Plus, it’s kind of confusing when they are in 5 different comics and are sometimes good guys, then bad guys then die only to come back as someone else in 4 other comics at the same time…

This trailer looks AMAZING. (Much better than his current “epic love story” gag movie.)

May is going to be a GREAT month!
