I must beg a boon of your forgiveness, for you see…I have failed.
I have failed as a geek, and I have failed as your faithful guardian of geekery. Last night, I had the opportunity to attend a reading of a portion of Neil Gaiman’s new book, The Graveyard Book, by Neil himself.
…And I did not go.
Oh, I had many reasons for it, but the simple fact remains that I have fallen short of the expectations set by the world of geekdom, not to mention my self-imposed standards. As I understand it, several of my friends were there, and it was a wonderful time, and Neil is a great person and a terrific live storyteller, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and all of that. Despite these burdens on my shoulders, there is a silver lining. Several, in fact.
First, the assurance that Neil, as a prolific writer and resident of the Twin Cities, will host and perform such a reading again means that I will likely be able to have a second shot at something like this.
Secondly, one of the aforementioned friends is the talented book blogger Kim of Bold Blue Adventure. She has blogged about the experience, and it’s worth checking out.
Finally, Neil’s readings from this tour are all online. Not just audio, but in-living-color video. No, really, look!
So in closing, I apologize for failing at my geekery. However, I will find some way to make it up…
P.S. I am almost through reading Neil’s book American Gods, so I will be sure to review it shortly. In the meantime, check out Neil’s journal here (or via my links on the right side of the page). Also, thanks to NeilGaiman.com for the pic.

SHAME!
I didn’t know he was a local author. Is he the one who wrote a book with a climactic scene taking place at 1st Ave? Thought I heard that someplace.
Admitting your problem is the first step, right?
