A British student who responded to a written question on an english test by writing an obscenity was awarded points for correct spelling and effective communication.

The chief examiner said, “It does show some very basic skills we are looking for — like conveying some meaning and some spelling.  If it had had an exclamation mark it would have got a little bit more because it would have been showing a little bit of skill.”

Good to know that instead of discouraging and punishing offensive, stupid, unsocial behavior, some people are communicating that it’s worth something.

If this was an English test shouldn’t the question have been “Describe the room in which you are sitting” and the response have been “It does show some very basic skills for which we are looking…”?

Wow. I’m speechless, really. As a professional writer and a journalism major, I just don’t understand. Not one bit.
