Thanks the fine bloggers over at The Point for this one. It looks like fun!

The point is to have some fun with the American Film Institute’s original list of top films.

1) Your 5 favorite movies that are on the list:

  • Star Wars
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Casablanca
  • Citizen Kane
  • North By Northwest

2) 5 Movies on the list that you didn’t like at all:

  • Unforgiven
  • Platoon
  • Amadeus
  • E.T.
  • Singin’ in the Rain

3) 5 Movies you haven’t seen, but want to:

  • Schindler’s List
  • Dr. Strangelove
  • The Godfather, Part II
  • Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
  • Network

4) 5 Movies on the list that you haven’t seen and have no interest in seeing:

  • Gone With the Wind
  • Tootsie
  • Wuthering Heights
  • American Graffiti
  • The Deer Hunter

5) Your 5 favorite movies that aren’t on the list:

  • Fellowship of the Ring
  • Memento
  • Gladiator
  • The Matrix
  • The Usual Suspects

I had a really tough time answering some of those, and I’m sure that on any other given day, the lists would be different. But for today, off the top of my head, that’s what I’ve got.

Anybody else want to weigh in? I’d love to see your picks. Leave a comment and have fun!

1) Godfather, Star Wars, Jaws, Amadeus & Raiders of the Lost Ark

2) Unforgiven, Fargo, The Deer Hunter, A Clockwork Orange & Raging Bull

3) Lawrence of Arabia, The Graduate, Dr. Strangelove, Midnight Cowboy & Vertigo

4) My Fair Lady, From Here To Eternity, West Side Story, Annie Hall, All About Eve

5) The Shawshank Redemption, Passion of the Christ, Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart & Chariots of Fire

That really was tough. There were a lot more films I appreciated, but it was hard just picking 5. Also, My Top 5 Faves That Aren’t On The List are in addition to yours. Good picks.

And I just watched American Graffiti last month for the first time. Wasn’t too bad. You might like it.

Drew — Yeah, it was really tough to narrow some of those down. As to A Clockwork Orange, you didn’t like that one? I thought it was brilliant — messed up, but brilliant.

And some of your choices from #4…got a thing against musicals? :-) I’m not crazy about WSS, by MFL is pretty funny.

Finally, #5…good picks. I thought about Braveheart and Passion, but decided not to. Totally forgot about Shawshank somehow. That should be on there.

Nice list!

Clockwork Orange was alright. It’s just one of those I wouldn’t want to sit through again.

And yes; I would classify myself as anti-musical… :-P

Really, you never saw these movies: Schindler’s List, Dr. Strangelove, The Godfather, Part II, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Network? You better make it a Blockbuster night tonight and rent them, they are all great.

Yeah, I know…what’s my problem? My wife and I should make a concerted effort to get through some of these classics.

Alas, I don’t have time to make my own list at the moment. Finals week is looming. Grrr. I can’t believe you’ve never seen Schindler’s List! I introduced Lauryn to it when we lived together. I’m a history and WWII-period nut, so any movie that combines the two is big on my list. Singing in the Rain will surely be on my favs list as well. Yeah, it’s sappy, but the tap dancing makes my heart go pitter-patter.

Tootsie is really funny–I love Dustin Hoffman! I highly recommend Schindler’s List and Gone with the Wind (even though it’s super long!) I’m surprised Lauryn hasn’t made you watch it! heheh
