Eidos, don’t play with our emotions like this unless you’re serious.
According to GameSpot rumor control, it’s possible that master thief Garrett could be gearing up for a return:
Eidos Montreal hinted that the title for its next “AAA” project after the recently announced Deus Ex 3 will begin with a “T” on its official Web site (check the blurb on the bottom-right of the screen). That led to widespread speculation that the studio would be bringing back another Eidos-owned PC franchise with a cult following, Thief.
It goes on to say that while many might expect Eidos’ premiere franchise, Tomb Raider, to be the one they’re talking about, there’s already a new Tomb Raider game on the docket for the end of this year, and it would be a little early to be trying to build up some buzz about another one at this point. Eidos is playing coy, but GameSpot seems to think the odds are good that the cult steampunk favorite is getting prepped for a resurgence.
Even though the end of Thief: Deadly Shadows nicely wrapped up the story arc that had been carried through the first (and only) three games, bringing it all full circle, I would very much welcome some circumstance that would bring Garrett out of retirement. My friend Kevin got me hooked on the series through his passion for it, and I think the concept is so unique in the world of gaming that it deserves more playtime.
Check out the Wikipedia article for the Thief series for some of the story information, and, for those who want to reminisce or just see a bit of what the game is like, here’s the ending cutscene from the first game: Thief: The Dark Project. It still makes me smile, remembering how good of an ending it was; an ending, and a segue to Thief II: The Metal Age.
I was on Yahoo and found your blog. Read a few of your other posts. Good work. I am looking forward to reading more from you in the future.

I keep trying to find old XBOX games of Deadly Shadows on discount game racks for my brother. All I can imagine is Assassin’s Creed only darker. Heck yes.
