I suddenly have a tremendous newfound respect for Angelina Jolie as more than just an actress. For a while she’s received a lot of attention for her humanitarian work and for being a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, so that’s nothing new. However, that work and that perspective has allowed her to form opinions that others in her line of work seem to be missing.
From the Washington Post, an editorial by Angelina Jolie: “Staying to Help in Iraq.”
Way to go against the flow, Ms. Jolie, and think for yourself instead of hopping on board a bandwagon cause. I’m not disrespecting those who have solid reasons for opposing the things the troops are doing overseas; you’re welcome to your opinions, though I disagree with you on the basis of the many great things that are being done, as reported in this article (and sadly, very few other places…thanks, Mainstream Media). I do have a problem, though, with many of those in Hollywood who are anti-war simply because it’s the trendy thing to be, who haven’t thought it through for themselves but acting instead like sheep.
My apologies if I’ve been too controversial or have offended anyone.
I read that article, too, and had a similar reaction – “wow, there might be more to this woman than I’ve given her credit for.” A good lesson to all of us, especially in this election year, not to make judgements based on outward appearances.
its amazing what a little perspective does for a person. Talk about things from a distance is one thing, seeing and interacting is another. Wow…great perspective!

It’s trendy now to be against the war just as it was trendy five years ago to do USO gigs and show the world the support you have for the troops.
Jolie is one of the best celebs to do what she’s doing: she’s young and insanely attractive. What’s Hollywood going to do, shun her for getting the facts her own dang self while the rest of Tinsel Town sits in their million-dollar mansions and gets their world-view from CNN and YouTube? Now if only she could kick her boyfriend’s butt into gear…
The only thing trendier than being anti-war is being ecofriendly. Yes, inside my 100.000 square foot mansion, I do use energy efficient lightbulbs and 2 squares of toilet paper at a time. That offsets my carbon footprint, right?? Right??
No question about that (thanks, Al Gore). The hypocrisy inherent in flying a private jet everywhere to talk about global warming is offset only by the apparent oblivion to how obvious the hypocrisy is to everyone else.
(Did that make sense at all?)
Anyway, I agree. It’s crazy.
But I went to a website where I can buy carbon offsets for my private jet! And my personal secretary uses canvass bags when she goes to the grocery store in my Hummer to stock up my gallery-sized kitchen.
