You will be assimilated.
So say the Borg, a “pseudo-race of cyborgs” depicted in the Star Trek universe (thanks, Wikipedia). The Borg take living races and “assimilate” them into their collective mind by physiologically altering the individuals with technological enhancements. That’s the short story, and all in all, they’re rather freaky.
But wait…now you, too, can be on your way to becoming a Borg yourself! Sure, there’s no hive mind yet, but creepy physiological advancements? We’ve got ‘em!
Check it out…
LED eyes. Yep, they’ve managed to attach LED displays to contact lenses. Bionic vision is on its way, including the possibilities of web surfing without a screen, information displays similar to those on your favorite video game, and even virtual reality.
Electronic tattoos. Want to make a video phone call using that tattoo on your arm, punching buttons submerged in your skin while watching the screen that sits somewhere between your radius and ulna? It’s coming soon! Powering this interactive body art isn’t a problem…it runs on your blood! And if tattoos aren’t your thing, the display disappears when not in use.
Cool? Yeah. Weird? Definitely. Needed? No…why are we working on this kind of thing instead of flying cars (or even cars that’ll get me 100 mpg)?
Sound off…anybody want one, think they’re great, or even wonder if these are harbingers of doom? Let me know if you’ve run across anything like this, too.
Seriously: I want my flying car!
I want my nutrition in a pill so I don’t have to take time to eat lunch. Just breakfast and dinner.
I also want a doppelganger that will go to work for me and take home my paycheck while I stay home and play with my dog. Except it would be tricky, because clones always seem to, you know, go psycho or decide to replace their maker or evolve or whatever.
Can I get my electronic tattoo in the form of the following numbers: 666? No?
I’d be the first in line for both of these things if I could afford it. I’ve been waiting for this type of thing for a while and I’d be super excited to be able to see a heads up display in my contacts. Now I’m just waiting for a direct mind interface with my computer–well, one way anyway, don’t want any viruses getting past my firewall.
