Food for Thought: Wednesday
Today we’ve got another article linked by the other blog I’ve been enjoying a lot lately: Brett McCracken’s The Search. This article is a follow-up to a piece he did several years ago for Relevant Magazine on “A New Kind of Hipster,” talking about the growing trend among young Christians to be hip, cool, and relevant in ways that most in the Christian subculture reject. I appreciate the point he makes in the first article that Christian hipsters don’t have one up on other Christians because they’re hip; cool or not, all Christians are called to higher levels of “critical thought and discernment,” and relevant Christians can still lack the depth that God calls us to.
Anyway, I like the first article, and so when Brett released a second piece on the same subject, I thought it was worth highlighting. So here you go: The Christian Hipster Revisited. Interesting thoughts and not necessarily something I agree with one hundred percent, but certainly it goes in the right direction and is worth discussing.
