Bathroom on the Right, Part 5

I think this will be the last one.  There are so many possibilities for mis-heard lyrics out there that I could keep this going for quite a while, but for now, it’s time to rein it in.  I originally meant it to just go those five days, but then with missing a day, plus the weekend…anyway, it’s time to wrap it up.

Today is dedicated to one of my wife’s former roommates who, according to her, had a penchant for occasionally missing a lyric here and there.  Early in the series, she emailed me with some of her favorite examples, so just for fun, we’ll feature them today.  As this former roommate — and still current friend — of my better half’s is a reader of this blog, she will both remain nameless and get the apologetic disclaimer that “it’s all in fun, no offense intended!”

First up is a selection from the Paul Colman Trio’s first CD New Map of the World.  The song is called “Fill My Cup,” and you can tell that the mis-hearing of this lyric occurred in a college dorm room.  The original:

Fill my cup to the top/ with running water. The roommate’s version: “with Ramen noodles.” I hear the “Ramen” part, but “water = noodles” is a slight stretch for me, personally (but hey, I was hearing “tuna shots,” so who am I to talk?).

Next is from perennially silly “plain white rapper” KJ-52, off an early CD, It’s Pronounced Five Two.  The song “Cartoon Network” offers this rhythmic fill:

Push ‘em up high.  Or, perhaps, to some, “eskimo pie. Definitely the tastier alternative (much more so than tuna shots or even Ramen noodles), but no rapper — even KJ — would be taken seriously rapping about ice cream snacks.

I’d still love to see one try, though!   And I’d just like to try an Eskimo Pie, because I’m not sure I’ve ever had one…

That’ll do it for this series for now.  I may revisit it again at a later date.  Feel free to comment with your mis-heard lyrics that I didn’t reference; there have been some fun ones!
